The Stinchar Valley

Discover the beautiful countryside of the River Stinchar in South Ayrshire, Scotland

The River Stinchar

The River Stinchar flows through one of the most beautiful and unspoilt valleys in South West Scotland.

The headwaters of the River Stinchar rise in the Carrick Forest to the north of the Galloway Forest Park. It flows through the villages of Barr, Pinwherry and Colmonell before reaching the sea at Ballantrae.

Fairly narrow for most of its length, the Stinchar Valley sides are well wooded, rising to hills of 700 ft and more, with the distinctive hill of Knockdolian rising to over 800 ft near Ballantrae.
